So how many people can you fit into the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department firehouse? Hundreds found out at their annual Lunch With Santa event this weekend.
Over 250 people packed the house, enjoying a lunch of hot dogs, chips, juice and dessert, while also making crafts, receiving balloons from Bows the Clown, and getting holiday tattoos from coordinator of the day Joanie Seeger.
“We have a lot here today because we didn’t want to turn anyone away,” she said. “This is a community event, not a fundraiser, so we wanted to be sure and include as many as we could.”
Many families said that the event was a part of their annual holiday planning. The Kendall family said they have been coming for years. “We come and buy a tree, then stay and eat with Santa,” explained Steve Kendall.
Rameses Bright of Piney Orchard was excited to attend with parents Vanessa and Cyril. He said that he had two special requests for Santa - a popcorn popper and alarm clock.
Santa arrived in a special fire vehicle, waving to the crowd before he took his regular seat with Mrs. Claus, visiting with little ones and offering them a treat when it was turn for the next eager fan.
The event marks the beginning of the department’s annual Santa Cruise – where Santa will visit local neighborhoods in a fire truck, sirens blazing.
